Waterford Half Marathon.

The Waterford AC Half marathon took place on Saturdaythe 1st of December. Based around the WIT Sports Campus inCarriganore on the outskirts of the city, this is a very popularevent attracting over 2000 athletes of every ability to the City on the day.The event serves as a fund raiser for the Waterford Athletic Club around the attractsover 2000 runners and joggers to Waterford. The event serves as the WaterfordAthletic Club’s main fundraiser, with money raised on the day going towards thedevelopment of their juvenile club and the promotion of athletics in the city. Over2,300 runners took to the start line at 10 o’clock on Saturday morning in nearperfect conditions for the race. Amongst them were five members of theBlackwater Triathlon Club, possibly working up an appetite for our Christmasparty later that evening. The first BTC member home on the day was PeterO’Brien, crossing the finish line in a very impressive 1:24:59, followed justover two minutes later by Conor Bartley in 1:27:02. Marie MacAree, havingrecovered from her recent Ironman exertions in Barcelona, came home in 2:15:09,with Kay Quirke just behind her in 2:17:31. Conor McCarthy also had a good dayout, finishing in 2:20:10, a full 9 minutes off his previous half marathontime. The race was very well organised and supported and the athletes weretreated to some traditional Waterford hospitality afterwards with plenty ofcoffee and a few blaas. Well done to everyone who took part on the day.
