Marymount Christmas Cracker Cycle
Blackwater Triathlon Club members, Bill McAulliffe and Ashleigh Byrne, were amongst the 430 cyclists that took to the roads of Cork on Saturday totake part in the Marymount Cycle. This popular annual cycle is a fund raiserfor the Marymount Hospice and the Laura Lynn Childrens Hospice. Each yearMarymount alone needs to raise €3million in order for it to continue to provideits services, so this is a very good cause. There were three routes on the daya 4km mini Cracker family cycle from Marymount to Bishopstown Church and back, the 64km Midi Cracker from Marymount to Ballinspittle, Kinsale and back toMarymount and the 80km Maxi Cracker from Marymount to Innishannon, Bandon,Kinsale and back to Marymount. Bill and Ashleigh did the 80km cycle. Weatherconditions were good on the day and the weary cyclists were treated torefreshments on their return to Marymount. Like their club compatriots doingthe Waterford half marathon that day, both Bill and Ashleigh managed to work upa good appetite for the BTC Christmas party later that evening, while alsocontributing to a very worthwhile cause. There is no entry fee to the event, but participants are asked to make a donation on the day. One couple who tookpart had even asked for donations to be made in their name in lieu of weddingpresents. Well done to everyone who took part on the day.
