Tri Kingdom Come

Organised by TraleeTriathlon Club, the Tri Kingdom Come Triathlon took place in Fenit in CountyKerry on Saturday the 3rd of August. There were two options open tocompetitors on the day; a sprint race consisting of a 750m swim, 20km cycle anda 5km run, and a try-a-tri race which consisted of a 250m swim, 8km cycle and a2.5km run. This is a popular event on the bank holiday weekend each year, withmany triathletes taking the opportunity to combine a triathlon with a littlesight-seeing in the picturesque surrounds of Kerry. The fact that the sprintrace was also part of the Tri Munster League this year also ensured a highclass field on the day. In total 29 athletes took part in the try-a-tri event, with over 250 competing in the sprint event. Two members of The BlackwaterTriathlon Club raced on Saturday, with both Justin Ryan and Joe Scanlon takingpart in the sprint event. Despite the broken weather leading up to the event, conditions weren’ttoo bad on the day, with the threatened rain holding off until just after therace. The breezy weather meant that the water was a little choppy on the swim, but the bike route was very flat and very fast. The run route was quite hilly, but nothing compared to the hills they had faced the previous week at The KingOf The Hill Triathlon in Kinsale. Once again both members did the club proud. Justinfinished in 6th place overall in a very impressive time of 1:06.40and Joe crossed the line in 1:1:15:12, 33rd overall. All in all itwas a very enjoyable and well run event. Definitely an option for anyone whowants to combine a bank holiday getaway with a little triathlon action.
