The Ring of Kerry
On Saturday the 6th of July the annual Ringof Kerry charity cycle took place, starting and finishing in the scenic Kerrytown of Killarney.. Over more than 30 years the cycle has attracted hundreds ofthousands of participants and raised millions for local charities. Among the 8,000 or socyclists that took part in the 175-kilometre sportive this year were threeBlackwater Triathlon Club members, Annemarie Leahy, Kay Quirke and BarneyKiernan. For Barney and Annemarie this was their first attempt at the distance.Conditions on the day were a little overcast, but dry, near perfect conditionsfor the cyclists. Asusual there was much craic to be had along the route with fellow cyclists andthe marshals. The organisation of this event is first rate and the number ofvolunteers ensuring that participants are safe and well fed all along the routeis very impressive. All three of the BTC crew managed to get through the routesafely and really enjoyed their day. This is definitely an event that should beon everybodyβs bucket list.
