The Edge Sport Blackwater Aquathlon
TheEdge Sports Blackwater Triathlon Club Aquathlon 2019 took place in Fermoy onthe evening of Wednesday the 10th of July. More than 60 competitors took partin the race on a warm sunny evening. The race consisted of a 750 metre swim inthe Blackwater River, followed by a 6km run. Due to theongoing issues with the weir, participants entered the water down by the rowingclub using a pontoon that the rowing club has been using. They then swamupriver for 375 metres before turning for home and exiting on the same pontoonbefore making their way down the quays and over the bridge to the transitionarea over in the park. The run was 3km out and back on the Ballyhooley road.The menβs race was won by Blackwater Triathlon Clubβs very own Justin Ryan, ina very impressive time of 36:37.5, closely followed by Sean Stillwell in38:18.5 and Daniel Kavanagh in 38:27.6. The first lady home on the evening was CatrionaFarrell in 42:49.9. Catriona was followed home by Alanna Drennan in 44:18.7 andNicola Moroney in 44:42.2. The relay race was won by the Fantastic EJ team,which consisted of Julian Boeg inthe water and Ellen Hanley on the road. We also had a good contingent from theclub taking part on the day, many of whom also helped out setting things upbefore donning their race gear. Well done to everybody who took part on theday. Credit must also go to the organisers and the large numbers of volunteerswho made sure that once again the race ran smoothly and safely.
