Eir charity cycle in aid of Special Olympics Ireland.
Each year eir employees take part in a challenge event to raise money for Special Olympics Ireland. Normally the runners and cyclists congregate in specific locations and complete the challenges together. This year, unfortunately, that option wasn’t available to them, so on Saturday the 12th of September, each person completed their challenge on their own. Challenges ranged from 10k or half marathon runs to 100km cycles. With 559 people taking part this was by far the biggest eir Challenge to date. Already the event has raised more than €30,000 for the Special Olympics Ireland Young Athletes Programme, with more coming in and eir will add a company donation to this amount.Among those taking part was Blackwater Triathlon Club’s P.R.O. Mick McCarthy who did the 100km cycle on Saturday morning. He discovered on the day that actually doing these events is far harder than just writing about them each week.
