Corrin Race

On Sunday 28th June, the Irish Mountain Running Association held a 4-mile mountain run in Corrin woods. Nine members of the Blackwater Triathlon Club took on the challenge on the day, combatting both the hills and the heat on a beautiful summer day. The race began with a frantic downhill section to lull the competitors into a false sense of security before the real hard work began. The downhill section ended abruptly with a steep ascent through single track trails that eventually saw the runners emerge at the cross on top of Corrin. Unfortunately, the runners didn’t have time to enjoy the spectacular views from the top of Corrin, but they did get to enjoy some relatively flat terrain before descending down the north side of the hill. After one final lung-bursting climb, the runners (thankfully) finished with a downhill 800m. The race was fast but very tough.

The race was expertly run and the organisers deserve huge credit for ensuring everybody was kept safe while running a really enjoyable event. On the morning, Blackwater Triathlon Club was represented by Michael Lyons, Conor Bartley, Peter O'Brien, Adrian Collins, Ashley Byrne O'Brien, Ken Steele, Kenneth Power, Siobhain Steele, and Rachel Cronin. Big congratulations to the members who tackled their first IMRA event, (definitely not their last), and to Ashley Byrne O'Brien who finished as the third fastest lady on the day.
