Conna 5K Road Race
The Conna 5km road race had a new home this year as the race shifted to Ballynoe for 2021. 157 athletes took to the roads around Conna on Friday the 30th of July. It was a nice evening for the race and despite the new course and Covid restrictions there were plenty of supporters along the route to cheer the athletes on. Conor Bartley was the first BTC athlete home, crossing the line in a very impressive 18:26, 14th overall.
Lisa Crowley cruised to a sub 20 minute finish in 19:57, followed by Dave Bartley in 20:49. Marian Twomey, who only recently joined the club, crossed the line in 24:47, closely followed by Amanda Lenihan, who finished in a time of 25:08. Jeff Roberts powered over the finish line 26:34 and Allen Cotter came home in 29:12. Allen remarked afterwards how much he enjoyed racing again after an absence of over a year. Hopefully, this will just be the first of many events for Allen and the rest of the BTC crew as restrictions ease over the remainder of the season. Well done to St Catherines for organising a well-run and very friendly event.
