Galco Naas Duathlon.
For some the race season can’t come quickly enough, and while the waters of Ireland aren’t the most hospitable in January there’s always the odd duathlon to keep things ticking over. Blackwater Triathlon Club members Justin Ryan and Dave Murphy travelled to Punchestown Racecourse in Naas on Sunday the 26th of January to take part in the first of a trilogy of duathlons. The Galco Duathlon Series is run by Naas Triathlon Club and the races are part of Duathlon National series, Junior Duathlon National Series and Para National Championships. The remaining race will take place on February the 23rd and March the 29th. The race consisted of a 3.2km run to start with, followed by an out and back 19.32 km cycle, before finishing with another 3.2km run. Justin finished in 58:22, 14th overall and first in the 30-35 age category, continuing his record of age group success from 2019. Dave was just under 4 minutes behind, crossing the line in 43rd place overall in 1:02:11. 199 competitors started the race on the day, so this was an excellent performance from the BTC duo.
