Cork to Cobh

This popular race is used by many people as preparation for the Dublin City marathon and over 800 athletes took part on the day. Amongst them were some of Blackwater Triathlon Club’s finest, Dave Bartley, Gina Lyons, Jonathon Kenneally and Peter O’Brien. Weather conditions on the day were perfect for running as the runners headed out from Cork City along the dual carriageway out to the Dunkettle roundabout. From there the route took them out along the Glounthane road towards Cobh. The first 11 miles were quite flat with a series of climbs up to the 14 and a half mile mark. The race finished with a downhill stretch into Cobh itself where a huge crowd of onlookers waited to cheer on the runners across the line. Jonathon was the first of the Blackwater contingent to cross the finish line, finishing in a very impressive 1:53. Gina and Peter were just a few minutes behind with both finishing in 1:56 and Dave was just a minute later in 1:57. Well done to the BTC crew and all the other runners who took part on the day. As usual it was a very well organised and marshalled race and a credit to the organisers.
