Club Aquathlon

In preparation for the Edge Sports BTC Aquathlon, which took place on the 12th of July, the Blackwater Triathlon Club decided to hold a members only practice aquathlon on the night of Wednesday the 5th of July. This served a dual function; it was an opportunity to try out the course and also a training event. The aquathlon consisted of a 750 metre swim followed by a 6km run. Conditions on the evening were near perfect, warm but a little cloudy with the water in the river positively balmy. 25 members of the club took part on the night with 22 doing the full aquathlon and 3 members just doing the swim. Joe Scanlan was the first man home in a time of 36:19.4, with Deidre Morrison the first lady home in 45:01.8. Well done also to two of our junior members, Anna O’Keeffe and Alice Boeg, who both completed the aquathlon. We should also give a special mention to the club Treasurer, Gina Lyons, who did the swim section, just a couple of weeks after giving birth to yet another future BTC member. It was great to see such a good turnout on a midweek night. Hopefully the official aquathlon will be equally successful.
