Hosted by Riverside Cycling Club, the Cliffs of MoherCycling Challenge is a leisure cycle in aid of local charities and voluntaryorganisations. Past beneficiaries include: Clare Cancer Centre, MilfordHospice, Home Share Clare, Cystic Fibrosis and Ennistymon Hospital. There werethree routes available on the day, catering for all abilities. The 40km routetook in the world famous Cliffs of Moher, Doolin (Refreshments) and steeredhome via Lisdoonvarna. The 80km route made its way along the scenic North ClareWild Atlantic way, incorporating the world famous Cliffs of Moher, Doolin, thebeautiful Fanore, Black Head and the renowned Corkscrew Hill outsideBallyvaughan. Then there was the 125km route which added a detour out ofBallyvaughan which follows the road towards Galway, up the Corker Hill and onto Carran village, down Ballyalban Hill and re-joins the 80KM rout at the baseof the Corkscrew Hill. Cyclists from all over the country lined out inEnnistymon town centre to set off on the cycle. The morning started off verywet, but as the day went on the weather started to brighten up.  Despite the improving conditions there wasstill a very strong cross wind for most of the day, which is probably not agreat surprise to anyone who has ever been to the West coast. On the day Michelleand Anne Marie chose the 40k route. This route had amazing views of the Cliffsof Moher and the combination of steep hills and wind made it a very challengingcouple of hours. Having said that, they both really enjoyed their morning outon the roads of West Clare, and they would highly recommend the event toanyone. Well done to Michelle and Anne Marie and everyone who organised theevent and took part on the day.
