AGM

This year’s AGM was held on Saturday 20th November 2021 in Anderson Centre in Fermoy and simultaneously on line. Members strictly adhere to Covid19 guidelines limited places were available for members to attend in person and a zoom call was set up so members could take part remotely on the night.  There were lots of things to discuss, reports to be presented and the committee members for 2022 to be decided.   The evening kicked off with the Chairperson’s address given by our current chair Niamh Fleming.  Niamh spoke about the events our members took part in in 2021. She also spoke about the in-house training that was run during the year and the fantastic participation of our members. She discussed the invaluable contribution of all the coaches have given to our training sessions.  While our own Triathlon was cancelled again this year, she hoped that we will be able to run the event in 2022. She highlighted the training events for 2022 and encouraged all members to get involved. She thanked the committee for the continued work they do for the club, and gave a special mention to members of the committee who are stepping down.  Our Treasurer Ashleigh Byrne-O’Brien, Stephen Dalton Club Secretary, Mick McCarthy the PRO and Aiden Sheridan our Membership Officer, all stepped down this year.   Following on from Niamh address, Ashleigh reported on the club’s finances, Mick reported on the club’s activities as PRO.  Dave Harte pedalled his way through the cycling report, Adrian Collins ran through the running report and Declan O’Keeffe treaded water with his swimming report.  The election of the committee for 2022, rounded off the night, with three new members taking on roles. Welcome aboard to our new Treasurer Marian Twomey, Ronan Fox our new Membership Officer and Ken Steele who is taking on the role of Attendance/Achievements Record Keeper.   Best of luck of to all of them in the coming year.

Mick McCarthy

Mick stepped down this year as PRO after 9 years at the helm.  Over the last 9 years Mick has kept the Avondhu readers updated on club events, with his informative and witty articles.  Hailing from Dunmanway, Mick has lived in the Rathcormac area for over  25 years, and is a true blue North Cork boy now.   He has a fair share of triathlon events under his belt and is always a champion in welcoming new members into the club.   His sporting feats are not only in the triathlon world, Mick is 3rd Dan in Karate too. He is also in training for the Cork’s Ironman race in 2022, no easy task to take on.  We wish him the best of luck.  Thank you for your contribution in the writing world.
