The Schull Fastnet Triathlon
Blackwater Triathlon Club had four members taking part in the Centra Fastnet Triathlon which took place in Schull on Saturday the 10th of June.This was the 13th edition of this popular race which takes part in one of the most scenic areas of the country. The race started with a 750m swim in the sheltered harbour followed by a 21km cycle along a coastal route and a 5km out and back run also following the shoreline. Club members Mick Beston, Christian Board, James Kehoe and Pat Finn joined the 230 plus athletes taking part on the day. Conditions on Saturday were very good. The sun was shining and it stayed dry, although it did get a bit windy. The swim was relatively easy in the calm water conditions in the harbour but the bike route, while very pretty, was a little more challenging with lots and lots of hills. Having completed the cycle the competitors were then faced with more hills on the 5km run. Mick came home in a time of 1:28:46, followed by Christian in 1:29:16, James in 1:33:33 with Pat just behind in 1:33:44. Excellent performances all round. This was a very friendly and well run event, with excellent marshalling. Well done to the organisers and all who took part on the day.

The Rebel Plunge
The second annual Rebel Plunge open water swim took place on Thursday the 8th of June as part of the Cork Harbour Festival. 250 brave souls entered the water on Thursday evening with the Blackwater Triathlon Club providing four of that number. The Swim was 3.8km upstream from Blackrock Village to Lapps Quay in the heart of Cork City. It was open to both Wetsuit and Skins swimmers and the conditions could not have been better with an incoming tide, warm clean water, and a gentle breeze assisting the swimmers up river. Julian Boeg, Christian Board and Stephen Dalton all donned their wetsuits for the swim and finished in very impressive times. Julian came home in 46:01 with Christian finishing in 51:02 and Stephen in 59:39. These are all excellent times, even with an incoming tide. It was also an excellent way for Christian to celebrate reaching 40. The sole BTC member to brave the waters of the harbour without a wetsuit was the club’s resident water baby, Dave Mulcahy, who got home in 57:29. Again, this was an excellent time for Dave. The event was put together as part of the sea festival by well known Marathon swimmers Carol Cashel and Liam Maher together with Pascal Horgan, joint organiser of the Lee swim, and the team could not have done a better job. Ribs, kayaks, goody bags, tee shirts, hats, showers, food, changing rooms all pointed to a very well run event with any funds raised on the day going to the Cork Lions Club. Well done to the organisers and everyone who took part on the day. Definitely an event to mark down in the diary for 2018.

The Edge Sports Blackwater Sprint Triathlon
The Edge Sports Blackwater Sprint Triathlon is on in Fermoy on August 12th. It's now open for entry for individuals and relays through www.triathlonireland.com.
