The Edge Sport Blackwater Aquathlon

By | July 22, 2019

The Edge Sports Blackwater Triathlon Club Aquathlon 2019 took place in Fermoy on the evening of Wednesday the 10th of July. More than 60 competitors took part in the race on a warm sunny evening. The race consisted of a 750 metre swim in the Blackwater River, followed by a 6km run. Due to the ongoing issues with the weir, participants entered the water down by the rowing club using a pontoon that the rowing club has been using. They then swam upriver for 375 metres before turning for home and exiting on the same pontoon before making their way down the quays and over the bridge to the transition area over in the park. The run was 3km out and back on the Ballyhooley road. The men’s race was won by Blackwater Triathlon Club’s very own Justin Ryan, in a very impressive time of 36:37.5, closely followed by Sean Stillwell in 38:18.5 and Daniel Kavanagh in 38:27.6. The first lady home on the evening was Catriona Farrell in 42:49.9. Catriona was followed home by Alanna Drennan in 44:18.7 and Nicola Moroney in 44:42.2. The relay race was won by the Fantastic EJ team, which consisted of Julian Boeg in the water and Ellen Hanley on the road. We also had a good contingent from the club taking part on the day, many of whom also helped out setting things up before donning their race gear. Well done to everybody who took part on the day. Credit must also go to the organisers and the large numbers of volunteers who made sure that once again the race ran smoothly and safely. Thank you to the Triathlon Ireland TO, The Blackwater Sub Aqua Club, Fermoy Rowing Club, and the Fermoy office of the County Council and members of the local community for all the support to make the race an enjoyable event for all. Special thanks to our sponsors, The Edge Sports. Thanks also to all the club members and their friends and families who did the hard work that made the race possible. We hope to see you all again next month for the Edge Sport Blackwater Triathlon.
