The Camida Clonmel Duathlon took place in Clonmel on Easter Monday the 22nd of April. Organised by the Clonmel Triathlon Club, this was a well run event consisting of a picturesque 4 km run along the banks of the river Suir, followed by a 23km, two lap cycle along the road to Kilsheelan and back, before repeating the 4km run to finish. The morning dawned bright and clear and temperatures approached 20 degrees Celsius as the 126 athletes gathered at the start line. Amongst them were Blackwater Triathlon Club’s Deidre Morrisson and Mick Beston. Both athletes had a great race on the day. Deidre finished in a time of 1:28:17, 8th overall in the ladies section and 6th in her age group. Mick came home in 20th place overall in the men’s race, finishing in 1:22:28. He edged out former Tipperary All-star hurler John Leahy to finish 2nd in his age category .
It was a very well organised race, with lots of marshals and enthusiastic crowds cheering everyone on. There were some excellent refreshments available in the hall afterwards as the presentations took place after the event. Well done to all who took part on the day.
