The Bere Island Midsummer Run.

Blackwater Triathlon Club member, Michelle Kearney, was also in West Cork last weekend, travelling down to Bere Island to take part in the annual Bere Island Midsummer Run. The event took place on Saturday the 13th of July, starting at 1pm. There were two races on offer on the day, a 5k and a 10k and a 5k walk around the scenic roads of Bere Island. This was Bere Island’s 7th Midsummer Run and nearly 100 athletes took part in the two races. It was a beautiful summer day, but the heat combined with the hilly route, made it a very tough day out for the runners. Michelle finished the 5k in 34:53 and was more than ready for some refreshments afterwards. It was a well run and enjoyable event, with plenty of local support to help the runners on. So if anyone fancies a run on a scenic West Cork Island next summer, start planning your trip now.
