The 13th edition of Tri Athy took place in Athy, Co. Kildareon Saturday the 1st June. This is a very popular popular event on the tricalendar and attracts a large number of athletes each year. The event offersfour different options to triathletes, I-Try, Sprint, Olympic and DoubleOlympic. Blackwater Tri Club was represented on the day by Gearoid Murphy andKevin O'Farrell who both participated in the Olympic Triathlon. Forecast on theday was overcast but remained dry throughout the event. The event started with a 1500m rolling start swim onthe River Barrow, 600m upstream around a buoy and 900m downstream under theDuke Street Bridge to the exit ramp. The swim was followed by a 40km cycle onfully closed roads with a strong headwind on the return leg.  The final segment of the event was a 10km runwhich consisted of two laps along the Carlow Road around the canal beforecrossing the The Horse Bridge to the finish line. Gearoid completed the Olympic Tri in 18th positionoverall and 3rd in age category with a time of 2:24:28. Kevin, completing anOlympic for the first time,completed the event in 2:53:16. Both lads wouldhighly recommend the event and plan to participate again next year.
